We’re going to WeyBiza…

The Webber’s, Churches and a Costigan head to Weybiza…er Weymouth for a seaside Half, check out the race report from Rach!

So today we headed to Weymouth Half Marathon, a race that should’ve been run way back in March! The snow on that day put a stop to it and today’s was the rearranged date.

With an early start we set off down to the seaside to get there for the earlier start time of 08:00. Arriving at the pavilion we were able to bag drop, collect numbers and complete our last minute preparations with ease.

The race started well with a small loop around the car park before heading along the esplanade towards Bowleaze, a sharp turn onto the road and a loop around Lodmoor Country Park before returning to the esplanade and back towards the pavilion. This was where the runners in the 10k were able to head to the finish, whereas those in the half headed into the town centre for some winding around the streets before heading over the bridge and through the Nothe Gardens, giving us a nice hillier section to contend with. Then onto the Roswell trail towards Portland before turning and heading back towards the town to finish outside the pavilion.

The drink stations we manned by some great volunteers and there were plenty of opportunities to refuel with sweets on the course both at the manned feed stations and the generous supporters. The refuel station at the end was also pretty cool, with bowls of jelly babies, dolly mixtures, crisps and cakes available. Well Marc definitely enjoyed it as he was found loitering in this area long after he had finished.
