We’ve realised now that if Chard Road Runners put on a race it’s bound to be good fun, after enjoying the Wambrook Waddle earlier in the summer we had to go along and try out the Forde Abbey 10k.
Set mainly in the grounds of Forde Abbey, this scenic 10k trail race takes in some otherwise inaccessible areas of private land around the estate, with about 200m of ascent it’s tough but not ridiculous, with a mixture of single track, fields and woodland to enjoy. After 7k it’s all downhill, back into the grounds of the Abbey and across the two river crossings (yes two) helping to remove all the mud from your shoes the finish is back on the lawn.
Due to this being part of the Somerset Series, a great turnout of runners with over 200 in attendance, we were a bit thinner on the ground, with Triathlon tapering in full effect.
